Abstract
Allelopathic effects of living wheat extracted from died wheat straw and wheat straw mulching on the emergence of crabgrass (Digitaria ciliaris) was studied from 1997-1998 both in the laboratory and in the field. Increasing wheat seeding rate decreased the emergence rate of crabgrass. The allelopathic ability was different among the aqueous extracts of wheat cultivars, organs and growing stages on germination of crabgrass. The allelopathic effect was concn-dependent, that is,diluting the extract increased the emergence rate of crabgrass comparing with the original extract. Increasing the weight of wheat straw in mulching to 4500-7500 kg¡¤hm-2 provided the excellent control efficacy of the weed by reducing the emergence rate and biomass of crabgrass.
